Almost all fishes of this species offered for sale come from the reefs and shallow waters surrounding India, Pakistan and Ceylon. The beginner has already been advised not to purchase specimens of this species. A small proportion of those fishes I have cultured have not responded to even the most painstaking efforts, unless Mysis / Artemia were available.
The Brown Butterfly fish is included here because its colouration, an unusual purple-brown, is rare among coral fishes, and also because it is a rather difficult subject, it will constitute the sort of challenge that the advanced marine aquarist may care to take up one day.
