Size: Grows to 1.8 metres and up to 113kg (Australia's largest freshwater fish).
Range: The Murray - Darling systems (Endemic to Australia)
Water: Not fussy about water conditions.
pH about 7.0
General hardness 50-200ppm.
Food: Prefers live and meaty foods but can be readily trained to eat dry food, eg; pellets, etc.
Temperature: Will live in cold water or tropical aquariums. Its preferred range is 18'C - 22'C. Will live down to 8'C, but stops feeding below 15'C.
Temperament: Juveniles can be kept with other fish providing they are about the same size. Larger specimens become territorial and should be kept singularly.

The Murray Cod is a renowned sporting fish that is groper like in appearance and has a huge mouth. Its back is a mottled, olive-green colour and its belly is a silvery white. Edges of all soft fins may also be tipped in white. This species makes a fascinating display and is at its best when housed in a large tank with natural mangrove roots as decoration. The natural feeding time of the Murray Cod is in the evening.
