Aeoliscus and Centriscus

Shrimpfishes are related to sea-horses and like them are characterised by a strong exosketeton of horny material. A much more striking feature is the curious habit of swimming permanently upside down. Furthermore, the extraordinary mobility and incessant activity of the expressive eyes, coupled with the permanently head-down swimming position, makes the fishes look as if they are forever searching for some treasured possession recently lost. Again it must be said that unless a well-matured natural system tank and thousands of brine shrimp nauplii are available daily, these enchanting creatures should never be removed from their reef homes.
